I just enjoy people made out of non-people things. Arcimboldo.

It is too bad that Angelico was paired with Arcimboldo, because I would have voted for him otherwise. But I agree with Morgan.

I think this is the toughest yet, for me. Fra Angelico creates such interesting spaces. But I think I have to vote for Arcimboldo. Because he is amazing. Too amazing maybe. Argh

Angelico - I think he's one of my favorites in the entire competition.

Oh, there's no contest here in my eyes. Arcimboldo, a very successful novelty act. Fra Angelico, truly one of the greats. His frescoes are lovely enough in reproduction. If you are lucky enough to see them in situ, transfiguring the austere cells and corridors of San Marco, they are completely sublime.

The vegetable and book people are fun, but Fra...Fraaaaaaa!

PS, the first Fra here won me over right away...the disembodied hands, and head, with Robin Hood hat, the...wait a minute, is this surrealism? What century again?

Am I the only one surprised that Acimboldo is from almost 500 years ago? It seems like some shtick that a computer could do really well today. It does make me more intrigued about him though. I mean, was he like, "Greek scene? No, Bible scene. No, Greek scene? Screw it, I'm making people out of food."

But I'm not intrigued enough to vote for him. Fra rocks! I love his colors and scenes... I freed him from a tie break, I have to have his back. Go Fra!

Here's an email vote for the Fra.

And here's MY vote for the Fra. It's hard not to love Arcimboldo, and to not be kind of amazed at how early he was working his crazy shtick. On the other hand, he really is a bit of a Johny One-Note. He cranked out enough copies of Summer so that pretty much every regional museum can have one, which is nice, but he didn't really do much else.

Fra Angelico was spare before spare was cool. He's so abstract it's emotional.

I do love Arcimboldo, but Fra Angelico is sublime.

Fra Angelico takes it fairly decisively, moving on to the Fourth Round with a score of 8-4. Arcimboldo will head to the left bracket to take on the winner of the long-running Albers/Alma-Tadema contest; apples-and-orange hat3rs, get ready to let fly!
