The Disillusionment of Jigsaw Puzzles
Now to octopi band!

The first Wednesday Post giveaway in, like, forever!

Every three years or so, whether I need to or not, I like to offer up a few completed jigaw puzzles.

This time it's one of Cezzane's famous series of "French Guys Playing Cards."  It has 1000 highly squiggly pieces, and although they are on a regular grid I must warn (or entice) you that the limited color palette makes this a real butt-thumper among jigsaw puzzles.  Here's a poor photograph!

If you would like to have this impeccably artsy puzzle sent to you -- perhaps by the Wednesday post! -- just say so in the comments.  If you kind of want it, but someone else seems to have already claimed it, then it is only sporting to advance a counter-claim.  If you dislike jigsaw puzzles, there's nothing wrong with that.

I Got a Postcard from La Gringissima!
Did YOU get a Postcard from La Gringissima?  I got a postcard from La Gringissima!

I think it's lovely.  It's like Paul Klee was knocking around with some scrap fabric and a sewing machine, and decided to lift my spirits by sending me something in the mail.

"But wait!" you cry.  "That's not a postcard!  That's a little quilt thing!"

But it IS a postcard!

I encourage all readers to send me handcrafted objets d'art to lift my spirits.  Also, cookies.

Chicken In A Basket
A Postcard Puzzle.

We were recently sent this wonderfully boring postcard by a friend of the enterprise.  She presented it as a puzzle by covering the caption on the back and asking:
Guess Where?
In full disclosure, I must admit that I had to confess I had no reasonable idea, and also that when Mrs.5000 gave her guess I said "Nah, that's not right."  Needless to say, Mrs.5000 was right.

In what American city was this postcard photographed?

Exploring the Evergreen State, Part X
Similar to many year round beautiful drives in this Pacific Northwest Wonderland.

Great news for people who haven't been enjoying our tour of Washington: this is the last stop on our tour of Washington!  We end where we began, back in Seattle, the state's great metropolis.  From here, we will return to our various homes on different trains, or perhaps by plane!  But I'm sure we will always remember the many sights and attractions of the Evergreen State, especially those of a hydroelectric nature!

Rains so hard here the drops bounce on the sidewalks & hit you in the face.

From the Olympic Peninsula, we really only have one more new leg on our tour of Washington, so we will cross over Deception Pass to visit Bellingham and the Skagit River country.

Exploring the Evergreen State, Part VIII
No golfing in Washington so far!

Our tour of Washington has taken us from the cities of Puget Sound, over the Cascades at Mt. Rainer, to Spokane in the east, and then westward again along the hydroelectric projects on the mighty Columbia.  Today we head all the way to the western edge of the continent, on the rugged and isolated Olympic Peninsula.

Dear Bill

The snow is melting now! No golfing in Washington so far! Grandad is doing great! Grandmother is recovering well. We leave for Colton & Freddie's today. Will stop at uncle Don's on way home. He is moving into the new house which is not finished. He will finish the miscellaneous things after moving into the house. He has about 10 horses & 5 dogs. I played golf at Stockton & Red Bluff which was great. Fireplace wood is cheaper here! "Hold the fort" til we return -- love Dad

We are still enjoying our Caravan. We each dug our limit of razor back clams at Kalaloch. This lodge at Quinault is still very good. We have eaten here twice & thought of you.
