The Infinite Art Tournament, Left Bracket Third Round: Klimt v. Kapoor!

Out of sixteen artists that set off 3/4 of the way down the fourth page of the IAT brackets, six are still in the fray.  On the right-hand side, Kandinsky and Klee were contemporaries, colleagues, and sometime housemates, simultaneously inventing new genres of non-representative painting.  "It's like comparing apples and apples!" you might complain.  On the left side, meanwhile, we've got a photographer, a graffiti artist, and -- in today's pairing -- a modernist painter and a contemporary sculptor.  "It's like comparing apples and oranges!" you might complain.  Well, stop complainin', and start votin'!

Gustav Klimt
1862 - 1918
Austrian

Anish Kapoor
b. 1954
Indian
  • Clobbered Angelica Kauffmann in Round 1.
  • Held off living German painter Anselm Kiefer in Round 2.
  • Lost badly to Wassily Kandinsky in Round 3.

Kapoor is cool, but Klimt is cooler.

This is an interesting matchup. I feel like how I feel about each artist on average is about the same, with Kapoor having higher variance. I think I'll swing Kapoor for the higher highs over Klimt for consistency.

I like metal, and I like geometry. But I still have to say Klimt.

Klimt wins the round, collecting nine votes against Kapoor's three. He'll be facing Banksy in the Third Round.
