The Wednesday Post

Exploring the Evergreen State, Part I
Sorry I was such a poor traveling companion

On Christmas Eve, sisterjen -- who is, in fact, my sister -- tried to hand me something she had brought at a thrift store: 40 or 50 postcards, all from the state of Washington, that had been perforated and decoratively hung on two lengths of yarn.  "NO NO NO," I said, perhaps a little ungraciously.  "PUT THEM IN MY STOCKING.  IT WILL BE MY BEST PRESENT."

And so it is that we begin our tour of the Evergreen State.  Like most visitors to the northwest corner, we shall begin in the famous "Gateway to the Orient," Seattle.  I'm sure we will have a wonderful time.

Dear Esther and Harvey,

We are heading for Lake Louise & Banff this morning.  Will spend three or four days in Canada & then start back home  Chick has been playing golf most every day & we're living right on the golf course so you know he is happy.

See you soon,
Love, Madeline & Chick

Just to let you know that I am in Santa Cruz & having a wonderful time.  Sorry I was such a poor traveling companion.  I was really sick but afraid to say much for fear they would put me off the train.  Spent 5 days in a hospital in Seattle.  Had to have a abscess opened.

"Did you f@&king lose your pencils? We often wonder."

This kid must not be writing to her grandparents often enough.

I think it would be interesting if you included the postmark dates in your summaries when you could (if they are intelligible).

Dylan: Thanks!

gl.: Almost goes without saying, really.

Ben: That's how I read it too. Also, ask and it shall be so hereafter.
