The Infinite Art Tournament, Round 1: Bourdelle v. Bourgeois

Today was scheduled to see the third round contest between the winners of Archipenko v. Arcimboldo and Fra Angelico v. Anguissola. While Arcimboldo ran away with the former contest, however, Anguissola and the Fra ended up in a dead heat -- YOUR VOTE COUNTS!  That puts this bracket on hold.

We'll use the Tuesday spot for a rare off-weekend first-round pairing, as Antoine Bourdelle throws down against Louise Bourgeois!!!

I had never heard of either (nice how this tournament is introducing me to artists I hadn't known of), and while Bourdelle's archer is nice, Bourgeois's giant spider is wow. Searching for more turns up lots of variations on the spider (and/or the piece has moved around a lot), but other interesting works too. Chalk one up for Louise!

Not that enthusiastic of either, but I'll vote Bourdelle.

Bourgeois, who is not at all.

Having not, as far as I know, voted the first time, I should probalby vote this time.

And I can see why it's a dead heat! For both artists, I don't care for the first work at all, but the second is good. On that note (and because I'm too lazy to see the works represented when they were up before - maybe a suggestion to include the previous matchups when the artist comes up again the the IAT, just a thought?) I'll go for Bourgeois, the spider-thing is more cooler.

Err, the parenthetical remark in the second paragraph basically means that I'm too lazy to find the previous postings on them, and suggest to link to the previous postings when they appear again, I think I missed out a crucial word or two there ...

Bourgeois! Spiky!

Bourdelle. Reminds me of Rodin, who made sculptures of people that I actually like. Oh wait, is that actually a bust of Rodin?

I'll go with Louise Bourgeois. Though I like that archer.

Bourgeois for me. I can not indeed not vote for that spider thingy.

A mail-in vote for Bourgeois, with complements to the spider.

It has to be Bourgeois. Who doesn't love a comblike headboard? And I've seen the spider, too (not in real life), and it gets a visceral inward shriek. So, a classic example of art I don't want myself, but the concept is, I think, effective.

Voting is closed in this matchup, with Bourgeois advancing easily to Round 2.
