Carracci.

Carra - but only for that awesome horse painting.
But I really love the second Carracci painting too.

The future is Carra
Carra, though I enjoy the "please don't whap me with that big piece of wood" expression in the Jesus painting.
Carra...but I do wonder about these two very different people pitted aganist each other just because of an alphabet. I am curious how much abstract work abounded in the times before/during Carraci.

Your reservations about the (mostly) alphabetical structure of this enterprise are a frequent comment. But the value of the system -- more emergent than planned, to be sure -- is that it encourages us to break out of the taxonomy-based thinking that is pervasive in Art History and art appreciation, and simply to go exploring. Too, it is for the most part a false problem: as much as Carra and Carraci are from two different centuries and represent very different styles, they both produced stuff that we put into the category of "art," and it is really not too difficult for most people to choose which one they like better. And the kicker is, it's interesting -- for me, at least -- to think about WHY I like that one better.
For instance, in this match-up I'm going with Carra, partly because I like the dynamism of his second piece, and partly because I have always been bothered by the preposterously undersized cross in Carracci's first image.
I'm going with Carra for capturing motion so well in the horse picture.
Thx for the explanation, it makes perfect sense :) in that it stirs up something very different inside you like comparing apples and quinces. I fully appreciate and encourage the effort in this cross-overing while letting me be an art student of sorts who had never before heard of Carra and Carracci.
