The Monday Quiz XXII

Extremely Tall Buildings

1. This was the tallest buiding in the world from 1931 to 1967. What's it called?

2. This was the tallest building in the world from 1930 to 1931. What's it called?

3. These two buildings were, by some measures -- this stuff can get pretty arcane -- the first and second tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004. What city are they in?

4. This building was, by some measures, the tallest in the world from 2004 to 2007. What city is it located in?

5. The building in the first picture, though still unfinished, is by most measures already the tallest in the world as of this posting. It is in a city that is also home to the extremely tall hotel shown in the second picture. What is that city?

5 Oh, I like the sailboat hotel. Oh, it's probably Southeast Asia, but they're doing a lot in Dubai these days, so I'll say Dubai. Except what's the city? Dubai City? Just chalk it up to Display Your Ignorance Monday.

I saw most of these in a PBS special about the biggest office buildings in the world. There was a surprise ending though - the Pentagon is the *largest* office building even though it's not that tall.

Wait... that might have been Inspector Gadget. In anycase it was really cool.

and here's the damage:

Exclamation Points to two perfect entries today.

Fingerstothebone, scoring her second MQ bling in three weeks, breaks the logjam at tenth place in the all-time standings and moves up into a new snarl, a five-way tie for sixth.

MQ perenial Chance bags his sixth Exclamation Point; that moves him into undisputed second place on the leaderboard.

Well done. You should both feel extremely tall. Metaphorically speaking. As should all who gave it a shot.
