The Thursday Quiz XXXI

The Thursday Quiz!

The Thursday Quiz is an "Is It or Isn't It" game. From the list of twelve items, your job is to determine whether each IS or ISN'T a true example of the week's category.

Remember always the Very Framework of Who We Are:

No research, Googling, Wikiing, or use of reference books. The Thursday
Quiz is a POP quiz. Violators will have to make it on their own.
This Week's Category will form a scaffolding for your musculature!

Bones

Ah, bones. Where would we be without them? Which of the following are actual human bones, correctly described?

1. Antilles: the heels
2. Clavicle: the collarbone
3. Coccyx: the tailbone
4. Fatulum: the "top plate" of the cranium
5. Femillia: the smaller of the two bones of the lower leg
6. Hyoid: a free-floating bone in the neck that supports the base of the tongue
7. Mandible: the lower jaw
8. Ortial Plate: the back of the skull, attached to the top of the spinal column
9. Phalanges: bones of the fingers and toes
10. Sacrum: the back of the pelvis, attached to the spine and to the hip bones
11. Tibia: the larger of the two bones of the lower leg
12. Ulna: the bone of the upper arm

I am even more out of my depth with this topic than most.

Is: 2, 3, 7, 9, 11
No: 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12

I might have taken human anatomy in high school if I didn't find the teacher so powerfully loathsome.

Glad to see that no one has taken the bet with "Antilles." It sounds like it could be the name of a bone though, and I applaud the the selection.

OK, here's the deal:

1. Antilles: the heels -- Nobody even pretended to go for this one. Very disappointing.
2. Clavicle: the collarbone. Sure.
3. Coccyx: the tailbone. Yep.
4. Fatulum: the "top plate" of the cranium. Completely made it up.
5. Femillia: the smaller of the two bones of the lower leg. Yeah, made that one up too.
6. Hyoid: a free-floating bone in the neck that supports the base of the tongue. Yes!
7. Mandible: the lower jaw. Yes.
8. Ortial Plate: the back of the skull, attached to the top of the spinal column. Actually, I made that one up too.
9. Phalanges: bones of the fingers and toes. That one is true.
10. Sacrum: the back of the pelvis, attached to the spine and to the hip bones. Yep.
11. Tibia: the larger of the two bones of the lower leg. Yes.
12. Ulna: the bone of the upper arm. No, it's one of the bones of the lower arm.

No room for error in today's ultracompetitive Quiz environment. There were three perfect scores this time, so it all came down to timing:

The Calico Cat continues her recent romp, taking home her first Gold Star. It's only her second TQ Star, but her fifth piece of L&TM5K bling in only three week. Unprecidented.

d grabs the TQXXXI Silver Star; that's his second Silver and his fourth Star overall.

Phineas takes the Blue. It's his second and his sixth Star overall, which moves him into undisputed 7th place on the all-time Star acquisition list.

Well done, my friends!

Hmmm, why did the antilles never make it into my college level Human Anatomy text? Is it a non-human term?

McGuff said...

5 surgeries and an extensive history of orthopedic challenges provided the knowledge needed to garner undisputed 7th place. I hope a background of rare diseases or undue misfortunes is not required to find a way into 6th.
