Rembrandt for me, too. This is early in the tournament for two artists I've heard of to meet.

Rembrandt for me

Renoir for entirely personal reasons. He was a "gateway" into a whole new world of art.

A strong vote for Renoir. Rembrandt's people are certainly amazing, but I'm not liking the soft focus; it seems to take away from what he does best (his realism). And who wouldn't want to go to one of Renoir's parties! I like that he's using his impressionism to add levity and movement to, what I would think, would be very hard to capture.

The Boston MFA had a show of Rembrandt's etchings when we were there, and I spent a lot of time looking at them, both with and without my glasses on. Made me happy to be nearsighted, just to see that linework. I would take him over Renoir even if he had never done a single painting.

Oh criminey. I love both and respect the case against both. Rembrandt's got it, though.

Whoa! Tough one. I'm feeling the Renoir today, though.

It's a tough-fought contest, but Rembrandt prevails, 7 votes to 4.
