The Infinite Art Tournament Left Bracket Second-Round Elimination GRUDGE MATCH: Wood v. Wright of Derby!

I don't know if we're going to see many more Grudge Matches, so enjoy the excitement while you've got it!  Grant Wood won against Wright of Derby in his first outing, but one thing followed another and here we are, three rounds later, with the same opponents squaring off against each other.  History shows us that the original winner usually prevails again in a Grudge Match, but not always... and not lately.  Let's see what happens this time, shall we?  Remember, there are no ties in a Grudge Match -- if both artists get the same number of votes, Mr. Wood wins on the strength of his previous victory.

Grant Wood
1892 - 1942
American

Joseph Wright of Derby
1734 - 1797
British

Vote for the artist of your choice in the comments, or any other way that works for you. Commentary and links to additional work are welcome. Polls open for at least one month past posting, but likely much longer.

I voted for Wood last time. Seeing how neither artist has changed since then, it must be something inside myself that has changed. Wright of Derby.

I vote Wright. More power, more darkness, more animation, more to draw you in. Wood's work always struck me as decent but, no pun intended, wooden.

of Derby, Joseph Wright.

I like Mr. of Derby, but Wood is quirky and special. Stone City, Iowa, the top one here, is one of my favorite landscapes ever.

Wood, though I like the other guy too.

Wright, though I want both to stay in

Wood, on the strength of a weird article about him in the recent Smithsonian, and my concern for the lack of eye/face protection in Wright's smithy painting.

Ugh, it's been a while since a vote has been so painful. But I too am going to jump on the Wright of Derby bandwagon. I mean, I assume the little George Washington is meant to be ridiculous, but I can't quite tell. And that makes me vote for the artist who was, you know, all about clarity and illumination.

Susan voted for Wright of Derby a while ago -- I'm just catching up.

Wright.

And that's it for Grant Wood, who can only muster four votes against Wright of Derby's nine. Wright of Derby -- sounds like "Arby's" -- goes on to a tough one against Valazquez in his next match!
