The Infinite Art Tournament, Left Bracket Third Round: Wright of Derby v. Velázquez!

It's the antepenultimate content of the Left Bracket Third Round!  Wright of Derby, who was accidentally entered in the Play-In Tournament and tanked there, has acquitted himself well after earning his main Tournament seed back.   But can he prevail against the great Spanish painter Velázquez?  You be the judge!

Joseph Wright of Derby
1734 - 1797
British

Diego de Silva y Velázquez
1599 - 1660
Spanish

Hey, where is everybody? Anyway, my vote here is going to go to Velázquez. I support Mr. of Derby, but only so far...

Hmmm... Not a huge fan of either. Wright's are a bit too clean and tidy for a Caravaggisti. But Velazquez, I don't know, I just don't really like them. So I guess I'll go with the man from Derby.

Alrighty, looks like we've got Velázquez by a nose, five votes to four. It was quite an interesting Tournament run for Mr. of Derby, who retires with a highly honorable but somewhat complicated lesson. Remember, pronounce "Derby" with the "a" sound from "Harvey." "Wright of Derby eats at Arby's" is a euphonious, if inaccurate, bit of doggerel.
