This is a really interesting pairing because Overbeck is clearly a huge fanboy of Palma Vecchio and his time and place, and he's recreating the look three centuries later with the benefit of modern industrial pigments -- Jesus in PURPLE, baby! Which maybe sounds like a recipe for an easy vote for Palma Vecchio. But, I think there's a lot of room for the kind of thing Overbeck was doing, and you know what? I like purple. Overbeck.

Like you, I thought nothing could top the magenta Jesus, and then I saw Vecchio and second-guessed myself, and then went back to Overbeck.

I didn't really think that Overbeck was really going for a Vecchio look, per se (though he was going for a vecchio look), but I thought he did a great job at recapturing a more medieval scene, with fantastic details (the sardonic camels, the bored kid with the triangle, the wise man revealing his baldness under the fancy hat). So, Overbeck for me too.

Too little too late for the Overbeck comeback: he falls to Palma Vecchio, six votes to three. Thanks for your votes!
