The Infinite Art Tournament, First Elimination Round #43/64

Faceoff #1: Nauman v. Noguchi

Bruce Nauman
born 1941

Lost to fellow American Barnett Newman in Round 1 by a single vote. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Isamu Noguchi
1904 - 1988

Lost to Ben Nicholson in Round 1 by a two-vote swing. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Faceoff #2: Noland v. Nolde

Kenneth Noland
1924 - 2010

Lost badly to Australia's Sir Sidney Nolan in Round 1.

Emil Nolde
1867 - 1956

Pounded by Georgia O'Keeffe in Round 1.

Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

Nauman, Nolde. An all-too-appropriate-these-days first image for Nauman.

Combo breaker: Noguchi and Noland, and it wasn't even a hard choice.

Noguchi and Noland

I don't like the Noguchi pieces that look like furniture I'd never want to own, but I do like his big outdoor works, so I'll vote for him. And I just like the balance and simplicity of Noland's examples here.

I'll go for Noguchi up top, and for Noland down below.

Noguchi and Nolde for me.

Noguchi takes the top contest. Nauman is out of play. And the bottom contest is still open for a few more days.

And the bottom contest closes in a 5-5 tie, the second First Round Elimination tie in a couple of weeks after none for 2 1/2 years. Weird. These guys will re-enter action against the next artists who tie in First Round Elimination.
