The Thursday Quiz VI

The weekend is in sight. In fact, it's already time for

The Thursday Quiz!

The Thursday Quiz is, as always, a "Is It or Isn't It" game. From the list of twelve items, your job is to determine whether each IS or ISN'T in the week's category.

Remember always the path of righteousness:

No research, Googling, Wikiing, or use of reference books. The Thursday
Quiz is a POP quiz. Violators will be cursed with a curse.
This Week's Category is feeling bellicose:

Wars of the Twentieth Century

(Two points before we begin. First, I promise not to monkey with the dates or details-- it was either a real war or it wasn't. Second, I started to do "Wars of the Nineteenth Century," but decided to lighten up. So quit your complaining.)
1. 1904-1905. Russo-Japanese War – Russia vs. Japan.
2. 1913. The Second Balkan War – Bulgaria vs. Greece and Serbia.
7. 1971. The Bangladesh Liberation War – West Pakistan (subsequently just Pakistan) vs. East Pakistan (subsequently Bangladesh).
8. 1973. The Yom Kippur War – Israel vs. Egypt and Syria.
9. 1978-1979. The Uganda-Tanzania War – Uganda vs. Tanzania.
10. 1982-1984. The Venezuelan War – Argentina and Ecuador vs. Venezuela
11. 1988-1994. The Nagorno-Karabakh War – Armenia vs. Azerbaijan.
12. 1989. "Operation Just Cause" – The United States of America vs. Panama

Marshall your facts and lead your blog to glorious victory! The stars go to the general who (to misparaphrase Nathan Bedford Forrest) gets there the firstest with the mostest right answers. Submit 'em as a comment.

Note: The use of war in resolving disagreements can result in property damage, injury, and/or death. The Life & Times of Michael5000 does not necessarily condone or endorse the concept of war, nor any of the above specific wars. No humans were killed in the creation of this quiz.

Damn. And I stayed up late to take this quiz, but I know nothing. Perhaps sleep will bring me sweet knowledge.

This is not so much an exercise in historical reasoning as a chance to display my ignorance, prejudice and bigotry for all to see.

Can the next quiz be "puppies"?

1. YES: Sounds plausible.
2. NO: The Second Balkan War – that number seems too low, they must have had half a dozen by then at least.
3. NO: The Maple Leaf War – Oh come on. What a wussy name for a war. Next thing you know they'll be putting that on a flag.
4. NO. Wasn't there a revolution or something around then instead? There was some good art that came out of all that death.
5. NO. I will eat my hat.
6. NO. Football war? You have GOT to be kidding.
7. YES: this sounds right to me, I just don't remember when.
8. YES: I'd say something about the statistical likelihood of this but I don't want to sound racist.
9. YES: Beats me. Sure. Why not.
10. NO: I was going to summer camp in 1987 with girls from Venezuela; I just find it hard to believe. But maybe they wouldn't have mentioned it.
11. Yes? Six years is a long time. (Oh wait--how long have we been in Iraq?)
12. YES: Undoubtedly.

Once again, weeks of watching a miniseries about a major war in the 20th century does me no good - NO GOOD AT ALL - for this quiz.

Guessing blindly:
2, 8, and 12 are.

The Maple Leaf War?? Please tell me you made that one up!!!

LOL! Just Cause - just 'cause... just got it.

Can I change my answers? =P
